Our Youth Hockey Levels

Welcome to Middleton Youth Hockey! We're proud to offer educational, fun, and competitive hockey to the kids of the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District in central Wisconsin. MYH offers hockey for kids as young as 4 years old and continues through teams for high school players.

Learn to Play (Initiation) - Ages 6 & Younger

Learn to Play (LTP, also known as Initiation) is an introductory on-ice program for kids age 6 and younger that have little/no skating experience. New players are instructed on basic skating fundamentals and introduced to the game of hockey with fun and engaging practices. Skaters are on the ice one session per week with nothing scheduled for holiday weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters age 6 and younger that are new to skating & hockey (older players allowed by request)

On-ice sessions that focus on basic skill development & fun

Saturday practices that begin in November and conclude at the end of February (appx 16 practice sessions)

Cost: $50 per skater

Cross-Ice - Ages 6 & Younger

Cross-Ice is an on-ice program for players ages 6 and younger that already have a little skating experience and a little confidence. Skaters are on the ice two times each week with one Saturday practice and a game each weekend at an area rink with nothing scheduled for holiday weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters ages 6 and under with some experience & confidence

Season begins in October and concludes approximately the first weekend in March

Typically 1 practice per week, usually on Saturdays, and local games on Sundays

Cost: $280 per skater

Red/White/Blue (Mite) - Ages 7 & 8

The Red, White & Blue program (previously know as Mites) is for skaters ages 7 & 8. There are three levels (hence red, white & blue) within the program allowing for us to provide an appropriate skill-level experience for all skaters. Skaters are on the ice 3-5 times per week with 3 practices and half-ice games each weekend at a local rink. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters ages 7-8 that range from little hockey experience to several years of experience being placed on a skill-appropriate team (level red, white, or blue)

Season begins in October and concludes the first weekend in March

Typically 2-3 practices per week and local games on Sundays

Cost: $600 per skater

Squirts - Ages 9 & 10

Squirts is for hockey players ages 9 & 10 that have completed the 8U (RWB) program and have qualified for participation at the Squirt level. Tryouts are conducted at the beginning of each season to determine player placement on the A, B, C, C2, etc team when player numbers necessitate the need for multiple teams. The number of practices and games each week can vary but generally include two weeknight practices and 1-2 games on weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters age 9 & 10

Season runs through the first or second week of March

Typically two practices per week (days might vary), weekend games, and several weekend tournaments

Cost: $1100 per skater and $250 tournament fee

PeeWees - Ages 11 & 12

PeeWee hockey is for skaters ages 11 & 12 that have completed the Squirt program and have qualified for participation at the PeeWee level. Evaluations are conducted at the beginning of each season to determine player placement on the A, B, C, C2, etc team when numbers necessitate the need for multiple teams. The number of practices and games each week can vary but generally include two weeknight practices and 1-2 games on weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters ages 11 & 12

Season runs through the first or second week of March

Typically 2 practices per week (days might vary), games on Saturdays and Sundays, and several weekend tournaments

Cost: $1250 per skater and $250 tournament fee

Bantams - Ages 13 & 14

Bantam hockey is for skaters ages 13 & 14 that have successfully completed the PeeWee program and have qualified for the Bantam level. Tryouts are conducted at the beginning of each season to determine player placement on the A, B, C, C2, etc team when numbers necessitate the need for multiple teams. The number of practices and games each week can vary but generally include two weeknight practices and 1-2 games on weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Season runs through the first or second week of March

Typically 2 practices per week (days might vary), weekend games, and several weekend tournaments

Cost: $1250 per skater and $250 tournament fee

18U - Ages 18 & Under

18U hockey (formerly HS2) is for skaters aged 18 or younger on the first day of the school year that are registered for and attending an approved high school or Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction home study program and not on a WIAA High School hockey roster. The number of practices and games each week can vary but generally include two weeknight practices and one to two games on weekends. Practices are primarily held at Capitol Ice Arena with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed.

Skaters aged 14 to 18

Season runs through the first or second week of March

Typically 2 practices per week (days might vary), weekend games, and several weekend tournaments
